Age inequalities in Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal adenocarcinoma risk, treatment and survival: a mixed-methods study

Abigail Jeyaraj

Abigail Jeyaraj is a PhD student appointed by the All-Ireland Cancer Research Network (AllCaN) Programme. Abigail is working under the supervision of Prof. Helen Coleman at Queen’s University Belfast.

This project will investigate the epidemiology (including numbers of new cases diagnosed and survival statistics) for patients living with a diagnosis of Barrett’s oesophagus or oesophageal cancer across the island of Ireland. In addition, we will explore differences in characteristics and treatment experiences for Barrett’s oesophagus or oesophageal cancer patients across age groups. This study particularly aims to provide insight into the unique challenges experienced by younger people (aged under 50 years) during their lived experience of oesophageal cancer.
