Pharmacoepidemiology research to determine modifiable risk factors associated with Barrett’s Oesophagus and Oesophageal Adenocarcinoma Risk

Kelly Tang

Kelly Tang is a PhD student appointed by the All-Ireland Cancer Research Network (AllCaN) Programme. Kelly is working under the supervision of Prof. Chris Cardwell at Queen’s University Belfast.

Oesophageal cancer remains to be a major global health challenge which highlights the need for effective prevention strategies and expanding the treatment options. This project will explore the potential relationship between commonly used medications such as antibiotics and aspirin and the risk of oesophageal cancer. We will examine how these medications, when used over time, might influence the risk of Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. By using large healthcare datasets, we aim to identify potential patterns in medication use and oesophageal cancer risk.
